A Star Is Born is a film that sinks its roots in the world of music: from the dreamy musicians who take their first steps in night bars, to the sharp claws of the powerful industry. A scenario that Gaga knows firsthand and that allows her to shine with her own light. And Lady Gaga gives us some spectacular musical moments that will make more than one person's hair stand on end.

A star is born: silencing the criticsWhen we talk about remakes, problems arise and, if the original work is widely known and respected, the remake will receive negative reviews even before its release. And, in the case we are dealing with today, the shadow of the past was of a greater magnitude, since it is not only a remake, but two other versions of the original had already been made. A total of 3 films telling the same story weighed on A Star Is Born.
Since the 1937 original, the story we are told has changed a bit; the stars of that film were not in music, but in movies. But the love plot and the heartbreaking drama are present in all its variations. The industry change is not Bradley Cooper's invention either; in 1976, Frank Pierson brought us this story with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
A Star Is Born generated expectation because, in addition to being a remake, it was Cooper's leap to directing and Gaga's leap to the big screen. Two well-known faces who decided to break new ground by exploring new media, new artistic forms. Lady Gaga had already taken her first steps in the world of acting with a small role and as the protagonist in the fifth season of the series American Horror Story. But a full-length feature film is a big deal, hence the doubts.
Against all odds, the film has won critical acclaim. Both Cooper and Gaga do an exceptional job, and Gaga's voice is able to alleviate the drama and darkness of the film.
The person behind the artistMany times, we idealize artists so much that we forget that, behind the mask, hides a real person who feels and lives just like us. The industry and the mass media, in part, have contributed to this idealization. Thus, artists cease to be people and become products, objects of consumption.
Coping with the stress of a tour, sleeping every night in a different place and having to perform 100% in front of a massive audience that expects to see the best of you is by no means an easy task. Jakson is a famous musician, but with a serious alcohol and drug problem. Ally, on the other hand, is a young waitress with a great passion for music, but has to make do with performing in a night bar where she shares the stage with drag queens. In this nocturnal environment, their paths will cross; Jakson will fall in love with Ally's voice and also with her naturalness and innocence.
Thanks to Jackson, Ally will achieve fame, but she will have to let go of her essence, her lyrics, her hair... We tend to judge those artists who sell out, who put aside their identity to make a place for themselves in the music scene. What we don't usually think about is that sometimes, as hard as it may seem, many have no choice but to jump through that hoop in order to, once they have reached their goal, show their natural talent and their true side. Jakson judges Ally, he hasn't sold out like she has, yet he has fallen into another of fame's monsters: addictions.
Understanding fameIt is hard to imagine all that comes with being a character linked to mass entertainment. A Star Is Born brings us pretty close to that reality. It destroys the idyllic paradise they wanted to sell us and envelops us in a very human story in a totally dehumanized world.
Jackson's situation is most tragic, he has everything to be happy and yet he is caught up in a hell from which it is very difficult to get out. Ally will support him until the end, even forgiving what seemed unforgivable, but love and understanding are above all. Ally understands that Jackson is sick, that despite having publicly shamed her, he does not deserve to be judged or condemned for it.
However, Ally's manager cannot think of anything other than his business and warns Jackson that he must stay away from Ally, that all he is going to accomplish is to ruin her life. These words, spoken to a person with no addiction or self-esteem issues, may not trigger a dramatic outcome.
However, Jackson, as Ally has pointed out, is sick, and these words are a stab at the vestiges of his self-esteem. For this reason, he decides to end his life. In the final scene, we see that Ally is already a consecrated artist, she no longer needs artifice to demonstrate her talent and pays a fantastic tribute to her late husband. Thus, we witness the two faces of a ruthless industry: Ally's objectification, but later ascension, and Jackson's descent into hell.
A Star Is Born presents a story that fits Gaga like a glove; she, like Ally, started out singing in bars until she rose to prominence as the eccentric artist we know today. However, if we review her musical career, we will realize how much she has evolved. In her first songs, her voice is not the most important thing, but in recent years, Gaga has become a respected artist and no one doubts her quality as a singer.
Artists grow, reinvent themselves and evolve. Gaga has not shed her extravagant character, but she has shown us that there is something more. That she is neither just a pretty face, nor the weird girl they wanted to sell us; Gaga has a great talent as a singer and has pleasantly surprised us in her facet as an actress.
A Star is Born gives us a story full of feelings, love and understanding. A beautiful story updated and adapted to the times, appealing to that humanity that seems to have been taken away from us.

At the beginning of 2019, the brains of a group of pigs were successfully revived in a laboratory. The news shocked because of what this breakthrough entails. A few months later it was announced that a group of scientists had succeeded in bringing lab-created mini-brains to life. It is clear that we are moving towards a new era in biotechnology.
The fact that there are laboratory-created mini-brains gave rise to a heated ethical debate. After all, based on what we currently know, we could say that a human being is basically his or her brain, and it is not clear how far scientists will go in their quest to experiment with life. Because of the implications this has, it has been suggested that this finding could mean the beginning of human cloning.

As reported through the scientific journal Cell Press, the mini-brains created in the laboratory are the size of a pea and produce brain waves similar to those that would be generated by the brain of a premature baby. The medium-term goal is to create increasingly sophisticated neural networks.
Lab-created mini-brainsLab-created mini-brains were developed by a scientific team at the University of California. The news was released in August 2019. What the experts did was to create organoids, whose cellular structures are similar to those of human brains.
The mini-brains are a million times smaller than the human brain. They were developed from pluripotent stem cells. These were placed in an environment that mimics that of the brain and this caused them to differentiate, transform and then self-organize in the same way as they would in a brain.
This is not the first time this feat has been attempted. In the past, progress had already been made in this direction, but until now it had not been possible to produce organoids that developed networks of neurons, as they function in humans. This is therefore an unprecedented breakthrough.
Some details of the processThe scientists' first success was to create an optimized environment for the cultivation of stem cells. As a result, the organoids matured more and better than they had done in previous experiments. The process lasted a total of 10 months, during which time the cells were closely monitored with multi-electrodes that recorded neuronal activity.
Just two months after starting the process, the scientists began to detect brainwave pulses in the organoids. Although they did not produce continuous signals, but rather sporadic ones, it was clear that the waves had the same frequency as that of human brains in their early stages of formation.
As the organoids grew, the wave production became increasingly diversified and regular. This indicated that gradually more structured neuronal connections were developing. Such waves and frequencies are similar to those recorded in the brains of 36 premature infants, whose data had previously been taken as a benchmark.
Uses and implicationsResearchers think that organoids are unlikely to have mental activity as such. They assure that this is a very rudimentary model, so it is not capable of performing most of the activities of a real brain. However, they do not rule out the possibility of obtaining more complex organoids in the future.
The research team has said that the lab-created mini-brains could be an excellent starting point to further study the functioning of neural networks. They believe that this, in the future, could provide clues to better understand and treat some diseases such as epilepsy, autism and schizophrenia, among others.
Despite everything, experiments in this sense have caused great controversy since they began, in 2013. For some experts, the fact of giving rise to processes of neurogenesis and development of neuronal circuits, in practice provides physical support for the development of consciousness. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that these mini-brains may at some point not be able to perform more complex functions.
However, for the moment this is not possible, since a disembodied brain also lacks senses and therefore cannot perceive stimuli that are then converted into data to be processed. Some, however, warn that there could be surprises in this random process. Also that we are getting closer and closer to cloning human beings. Undoubtedly, this is fascinating and unknown terrain.

There are other less pleasant silences. Those that remind us that we are alone from everyone in general or from someone in particular. The answer that does not come. The words we will never hear anymore from those who left.

Even though our conversations are often nothing more than an endless repetition of the same worn-out formulas, the same commonplaces, the same social, political or business litany.
Silence as therapy
In psychoanalysis, silence acts as a pillar that supports the whole scaffolding of the process. The analyst offers his silence as an invitation to elaborate our own voice, our own listening, our own discourse. The silence of the person being analyzed speaks of his or her resistances or of the irruption of that which palpitates and pushes intimately to be said.
Also within the psychoanalytic framework, another form of silence emerges that is insurmountable. After all, the unconscious is a speech without words.
From these silences in the face of the unspeakable emerges a new language that is not so much made of words to explain itself, but of intuition, suggestion, paradox, pre-text to be said...
